Language School

Life in Cambodia has been even better than we had imagined.  It's hard to believe we have been here almost 8 months already!  Our main goal during this first year is learning the Khmer language.  33 consonants, 32 subscript consonants, 24 dependent vowels, 9 independent vowels, and a few other characters/signs thrown in... enough to give anyone a HUGE headache!  However, the Lord has really helped us along the way with our reading, writing, speaking, and hearing abilities.  We can now carry on a conversation... at maybe a primary school level.

Our first semester laid the foundation as we learned the Khmer alphabet and started building our vocabulary with everyday words and phrases.  Our second semester was all about the dreaded word... dictation!  Every day, our teacher would read a set of new words or an entire paragraph that we would have to write as he dictated.  Now, we are currently in our third semester which focuses on Khmer grammar.  We only have one more semester after this one until we complete our studies at the Royal University of Phnom Penh in September.

As we look ahead to finishing language school, we are also getting more excited about our future ministry in Cambodia.  Right now, we are asking God to show us where we should move after language school.  Please pray with us that we will be able to finish strong in our language studies and find the right place to reach the people of Cambodia with God's love.
